NOTICE: We’re in the process of migrating the NGEE-Tropics Data Archive to ESS-DIVE, the long-term data archive for BER/ESS. All public NGEE-Tropics datasets can be accessed in the new NGEE-Tropics Portal in ESS-DIVE, including after the NGEE-Tropics Data Archive is retired.

Leaf-to-canopy spectral reflectance photographs, Feb2018, PA-SLZ: Panama

Dataset Information

Site ID: PA-SLZ

Site Name: Bosque Protector San Lorenzo (Fort Sherman)

Variables: Demography

Date Range: Feb. 19, 2018 - Feb. 22, 2018

Description: Photographs of 37 tree canopies were taken at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) San Lorenzo Protected Area site, utilising the canopy access crane to view tree crowns. Canopy photos were taken to capture canopy structural information to accompany matching canopy reflectance spectra. Canopy data were recorded in the middle of the day. This collection also includes photographs showing leaf-level detail of branches sampled from each tree, with the photo taken after the branch samples were removed from the trees. These full resolution canopy and branch sample photographs (*.jpg) accompany the dataset "Leaf-to-canopy spectral reflectance, February 2018, PA-SLZ: Panama". Refer to this companion dataset for full metadata, including sample and species information.

QA/QC: None

Methods Description: Data were recorded between 10 am and 2 pm, with 20–50 measurements for each of 37 trees, as viewed from the canopy access crane. The canopy structure for each crown was captured with imagery using a compact digital camera. Individual sample branches were photographed on the ground after removal from the trees.
