NOTICE: We’re in the process of migrating the NGEE-Tropics Data Archive to ESS-DIVE, the long-term data archive for BER/ESS. All public NGEE-Tropics datasets can be accessed in the new NGEE-Tropics Portal in ESS-DIVE, including after the NGEE-Tropics Data Archive is retired.

Leaf spectra by leaf age, Feb2017, PA-SLZ: Panama

Author(s): Serbin S; Wu J; Ely K

Dataset Information

Site ID: PA-SLZ

Site Name: Bosque Protector San Lorenzo (Fort Sherman)

Variables: Leaf spectra

Date Range: Feb. 16, 2017 - Feb. 22, 2017

Description: This data package contains leaf spectra of sunlit canopy leaves of the species Apeiba membranacea, Guatteria dumetorum, Miconia borealis, Terminalia amazonia, Virola multiflora, and Vochysia ferruginea in the Bosque Protector San Lorenzo (PA-SLZ) NGEE Tropics site in Panama. Leaf spectra was measured on young, mature, and old leaves collected before dawn and around midday on five days during February of 2017. Leaf data includes temperature (pre- and post-spectral measurement) and leaf size (length, width). Within the attached zip file there are three PDF files, one with collection protocols and two manuals for the instruments used. Metadata is included in two Excel files, "E-Field_Log_2017_BNL_Panama" "File_Submission_Metadata_2017_SLZ_leafSpec". Leaf spectral data is included in Excel format as "NGEE-Tropics_Panama_2017_Leaf_Spectra_ByAgeV2." and the same data as csv in "Spectral_Data.csv" This data was collected as part of the 2017 Brookhaven National Lab and Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute leaf traits by age campaign. Related datasets include further sample details, leaf water potential, sap flow, leaf mass per area (LMA), gas exchange, and leaf chemistry.

Methods Description: Leaf spectra was measured on young, mature, and old leaves collected before dawn and around midday on five days during February of 2017. For further details regarding collection protocol, see the attached PDF "NGEE_Tropics_leaf_spectral_collection_protocols." Measurements were taken using a SVC HR-1024i Spectroradiometer with an SVC reflectance probe. Manuals for instruments used are included as PDFs in the attached zip file.
